Prompts are being a pain, again. I just want to write cute and adorable fluffy stuff for as long as I can but sometimes I just get vexed. This time, I got stuck on "Lies" and "Disgrace" which are pretty serious sounding, y'know? ... I cheated a bit and had "Lies" leading into "Disgrace", since they are right next to each other, and ended up with something about Kyousuke getting into male prostitution (seriously, self?) but I'm not satisfied. =/ Meh, I need to use my imagination a bit more... I'm sure I can come up with something a bit more light-hearted. I'll try again.

Since I don't like losing writing, here they go.

36 Lies

'How's your search for a new job going? It really was bad luck you had to lose that other job after searching for so long. Will you be alright?'

'It's fine. I've already found something.'

'Oh, that's a relief. So where is your new job?'

Several minutes pass by before Kyousuke sends a message back.

'It's just a part time job at a shop. Nothing much.'

'Well, it's better than nothing. Hope you'll have better luck this time around.'

Riki doesn't sense anything out of the ordinary. There's no reason to suspect something is wrong.

He goes to see Kyousuke one Sunday morning. Kyousuke's hair and clothes are disheveled, and he looks like he hasn't had much sleep.

"Did you stay up all night or something?"

"Uh... yeah, I guess I kinda did."

Riki tries to ask about how things have been going but Kyousuke doesn't seem to be in the mood to talk about that and diverts the topic, asking Riki how it's going at college instead, so Riki tells him about everything that's been going on. He's not sure if it's just his imagination, but Kyousuke seems almost sad as he listens to him.

"Is something wrong?"

"Huh? No... nothing's wrong."

Riki decides not to pursue the subject.

Time passes by, and Riki can't help noticing that Kyousuke seems to be sending fewer messages than usual. They are unusually short too. He knows something isn't quite right.

'Kyousuke, is everything alright? I haven't heard much from you lately.'

'I'm fine.'

Is he really? Riki gets the feeling there's something Kyousuke isn't telling him.

His worry only grows over time. It's been ages since Kyousuke came to see him, and he's been so busy that he hasn't had a chance to visit Kyousuke. At the weekend, when he has some free time, Riki decides to pay Kyousuke a surprise visit.

"Riki." Kyousuke is visibly startled. "You should have said you were coming."

Kyousuke is wearing only a rumpled t-shirt and boxers. Riki can see the red and grey blotches marring his skin as clear as day. A chill runs through his body and he focuses his gaze on Kyousuke's pale, drawn face. Now he knows for sure that something really is wrong.

"Kyousuke, what happened to you?"

Kyousuke averts his gaze. "Nothing."

"So, what are those bruises? You look so thin. Have you been eating properly?"

Kyousuke chews his lower lip. "I just got caught up in a fight, that's all. It's nothing to worry about."

Riki knows. Kyousuke is lying to him and it hurts. Why would Kyousuke, the person he loves and admires most of all in the world, lie to his face, when it's so obvious something is wrong? His eyes start to sting. A long, uncomfortable silence follows.

"Okay. I just wanted to see how you were doing." Riki's voice quivers. "Take care." He turns and walks away at a brisk pace.

Kyousuke reaches out a hand, about to call Riki's name, but it dies on his lips. His hand falls to his side.

"Sorry, Riki."

37 Disgrace

Riki is too worried about Kyousuke to simply let this matter slide. Kyousuke looked so thin and weary, and there were bruises on his body. What if someone is hurting him? Riki can't bear the idea of him being in trouble. He has to know what's going on.

Kyousuke leaves the apartment building that evening and Riki goes after him, taking care not to be seen. He sees him go up a flight of stairs to another building. A man comes to the door and they speak for a moment before Kyousuke goes in.

Riki waits a minute before going to the door. The man answers the door again and directs a suspicious stare at him.

"You new?"

"Eh? No, I mean... I just saw my friend go in and I was wondering..."

"So you're just nosing around? I ain't got time to deal with the likes of you. Beat it, kid."

The man disappears back inside, closing the door on him. Riki has no choice but to go back to the apartment building and wait for Kyousuke to return. He spends all night drinking coffee while he waits.

The sun is already starting to rise when Kyousuke staggers back into the building with his shoulders slumped and head down.

"Kyousuke."

Kyousuke freezes in place, looking at Riki with eyes as wide as saucers. His mouth open and shuts. He can't even think of anything to say. There's a livid mark on his cheek and red blotches circling his neck and wrists.

Riki doesn't say a word. He just takes Kyousuke by the hand and they go to his apartment together. Once they are inside, Kyousuke slumps onto the couch and hugs his legs to his chest. He looks so small and vulnerable, so unlike his usual self.

"I followed you to that building last night." Riki sat down next to him. "That man wouldn't let me in."

"You went there?" Kyousuke's eyes flash with horror and he sits up. "Riki, don't ever go there again."

His voice has a sharp edge to it. Riki feels ashamed, as if he was told off for doing something wrong. "Okay, I won't. Sorry. I just wanted to know what was going on. I was really worried about you."

Kyousuke sighs. "I didn't think you'd go to such lengths. I almost put you in danger."

"What was going on in there?"

Kyousuke takes a long while to speak.

"I'm such a disgrace."

It all started when he lost the job. He was short on money and trying to find a new job as soon as possible. Someone approached him, asked him if he was interested in making some money. He should have realised how shady it was but he needed that money so badly, he went along with them. That was how he ended up getting caught up in it all. It was a way to make ends meet until he found the next job.

"I couldn't tell anyone, even you. I was just too ashamed. How can I admit to something like this?" Kyousuke puts his head in his hands and exhales. "I bet you're pretty disgusted with me now."

Riki stares at him with a mix of sympathy and horror on his face. He could never have imagined that Kyousuke would have become involved in something like this. To think he'd been hiding it this whole time and suffering. It must have been so hard on him. His arms circle around Kyousuke's body, pulling him into a firm embrace.

"Riki?"

"You're not a disgrace, Kyousuke. Whatever you might have been doing this whole time, I still love you, no matter what. I'm not going to judge you for anything."

Kyousuke puts his hand over Riki's, clasping it firmly. "Thank you."

"Please, don't try to hide it anymore. Just let me help you in any way I can."

Kyousuke inclines his head in a slight nod. "Alright."
